Before: this one-story portion of the home was a mudroom/ covered porch. The pergola and wisteria were temporarily removed for construction, then repositioned against the new two-story addition.
Before: the new second story addition will connect the original home (on the right) to the more recent wing (on the right). Windows will be removed and replaced with doors.
After: the owner wanted the second story to look like it was originally a covered porch that had been enclosed, with windows filling in the spaces between original porch posts. The twin windows on the left are in a new bathroom; the other three sets are in a sunroom accessible from the original and more recent second story wings.
After: this used to be the kitchen! The windows flanking the fireplace are new. The fireplace is original and was concealed behind old kitchen cabinets.
After: the kitchen is where the covered porch/mudroom was previously. Some of the original porch ceiling was reused on the back side of the new kitchen cabinets. The original wall was replaced with a beam.
After: even though this kitchen is narrow it's very functional, even for a two-cook household that regularly throws large parties.
