Additions and Renovations

1910 House Modernization in Boonsboro

This house is owned by a couple with three children, and it was bursting at the seams when they called me.  The three bedrooms were tiny, and the ceiling height on the second floor was barely 6'-8".  The building consisted of an original house built around 1910, a middle addition constructed several decades ago, and a third porch addition at the back of the home, built in the 80's.  The original front portion of the home was gutted, and the roof removed entirely, so that the second floor walls could be extended to create an 8' ceiling height.  We also reduced the size of the original wrap-around porch in order to add a two-story addition to the front, and we enclosed a portion of the porch halfway back the side of the house in order to create a more formal front entry.  Can you believe that the family lived in the back portion of the house -- kitchen, living room, dining room, and porch -- the entire time that the front half was being renovated?  In the winter?  Now they have resettled themselves into a new first floor master suite, with three second-story bedrooms for the children.

This home is situated on a sloped piece of property on Clevelandtown Road in Boonsboro, which the owners use as a Christmas tree farm.  If you stop by for a tree this year you will see the house because it's very close to the road.  Don't forget to tell Gary that you saw his home on my website!
